Senior Research Associate

Position Context

The incumbent will hold a PhD and have at least 4 years of post-doctoral research experience, with proven expertise in neuropsychology, sleep, and electrophysiological (EEG) methods. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive skills in cognitive neuropsychology, experimental methods, and analysis, as well as experience working with a range of populations, i.e., pediatrics, adults and elderly, with neurological impairments, sleep and/or psychology problems. S/he will be responsible for mentoring students and management of the research project using the Perform Sleep Laboratory. In addition, the successful applicant will be well organized, have exemplary communication skills. S/he must have a track record of leading independent research, publications and contributing to the writing of grants. The proposed scientific work is for a Senior Research Associate and includes the following administrative activities:

 

  • Advise on the design and practical implementation of study design
  • Assisting in the recruitment activities (reviewing screening results, medical history)
  • Performing quality control of the data base(s)
  • Assist the students in data analysis, managing databases, and writing manuscripts

 

JOB OUTLINE 

  • Plans and organizes scientific research.
  • Develops study guidelines to outline research procedures to be followed.
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures, SOP
  • Assists the students in preparing reports for publication or for presentation
  • Review the ethics renewals and amendments documents
  • Review recruitment and screening of research participants
  • Preparing and managing large databases
  • Assist the students in conducting basic preliminary statistical analyses

 

GENERAL and SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Aides the coordinator in ethics submissions to research Ethic Board related both to the database and to lab activities in general to ensure compliance with ethics requirements
  • Lab data management: optimize existing data management protocols and work closely with students and other researchers in the lab to assure that protocols are followed.
  • Assist and coordinate training
  • Ensure that lab members are trained and up to date on lab procedures.
  • Supervise the activities of undergraduate trainees, graduate and postdoctoral students
  • Ensuring that standard operating procedures are adhered to.
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Tactful and diplomatic when dealing with participants and staff
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Uses good judgment in resolving priority issues
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Works effectively under pressure and resolves issues promptly
  • Demonstrates ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
